Wishbone wedding band best fit for an engagement ring

At Alan Bick Bespoke Jewellers, we often recommend a wishbone wedding band best fit for an engagement ring as one of the most elegant and practical choices to complement your engagement ring.

A wishbone (or V-shaped) design is specially contoured to sit closely against the centre stone of your engagement ring, allowing the band to “frame” the diamond rather than compete with it. This creates a seamless, balanced look that enhances the overall sparkle of both rings.

Wishbone bands are particularly ideal for engagement rings with elongated or prominent centre stones, such as oval, radiant, pear, and emerald cuts. The gentle curve of the band naturally follows the shape of these designs, ensuring a perfect fit with minimal gap.

Design

Beyond aesthetics, the wishbone style also offers versatility—whether worn alone for a modern, minimal look or paired with your engagement ring as part of a bridal set.

You can decide to alter the design to match exclusively to your engagement ring if you have a unique design.

The result is a timeless, tailored pairing designed to enhance your engagement ring rather than overshadow it—creating a harmonious and elegant bridal combination.

Material

Each wishbone wedding band from Alan Bick Jewellers is handcrafted in the UK, with options in platinum, 18ct white gold, 18ct yellow gold, and 18ct rose gold, and can be set with diamonds for added brilliance. Each wishbone band can be chosen to be set with natural or lab-grown diamonds.

Engraving

Your wishbone wedding band can be fully customised with your chosen engraving to create a truly personal piece. Our specialist 3D engraving technique allows for exceptional depth and detail, bringing your design to life with precision and clarity. Initials, date, names, even a romantic sweet message for your Big Day.

The result is a timeless keepsake—rich in meaning, beautifully detailed, and designed to be treasured for generations.

Re-sizing

We can professionally resize your wedding band if any adjustments are required. All resizing work is carried out by our experienced craftsmen to ensure precision and care throughout the process. Any engraving or personalised detailing on the ring is carefully preserved, maintaining the integrity and finish of your bespoke design

Timescale for Wishbone Wedding Band

The creation of your bespoke wishbone diamond wedding band typically takes 2–3 weeks from start to finish. This includes the full design and manufacturing process, as well as any engraving you decide.

More intricate bespoke designs, such as unique curves in the band may require additional time to ensure every detail is executed with precision and craftsmanship. Each piece is carefully made to order, ensuring a high-quality finish that reflects your vision.

How is a Wedding Band Resized?

Resizing a Ring to a Smaller Size

If your signet ring is too large, a jeweller will cut out a small section of the band, reshape it, and then carefully solder it back together. The ring is then polished to remove any visible seams, and any stones are checked to ensure they remain secure. This method is the most common way to downsize a ring while maintaining its strength and aesthetics.

Resizing a Ring to a Larger Size

If you need your ring to be larger, a jeweller can stretch the band slightly if only a minor increase is needed. However, for a more significant size increase, additional metal will be added to the band to expand it. The new section is seamlessly soldered into place and polished to match the original design. Stretching is only possible for simple bands and we would not recommend this for a signet ring as it may alter the table of the signet ring including your engraving.

How to Determine Your Ring Size

If you are unsure about your ring size, you can use a professional ring sizer, visit a jeweller for an accurate measurement, or use an online printable ring size chart. Keep in mind that finger size can fluctuate due to temperature and humidity, so it’s best to measure at different times of the day. Having an accurate measurement before purchasing or resizing your ring ensures a perfect fit and avoids unnecessary adjustments.
